Product Features and Details
Deutsche Bahn designates the new generation of high-speed Intercity-Express (ICE) trains for long-distance passenger transport as ICE 4 or BR 412. In 2011, Siemens Mobility / Bombardier was commissioned to develop and build 170 trains. Initially, twelve-car variants should be ready for use from December 2017, later seven-car trains from December 2020.
A total of up to 300 new ICE trains are to be purchased. The trains are intended as multiple units for passenger transport. They are powered by several independently powered cars, so-called powercars, which are distributed across the train. The new ICE trains are made up of five car types: end cars, powered intermediate cars ("power cars"), non-powered intermediate cars, dining cars and service cars. The trains can also be used coupled in double traction. The exterior design of the trains received the Red Dot Design Award in 2015. The first series of 130 multiple units comprises 45 seven-car and 85 twelve-car trains. With 412 034 (multiple unit 9034) the new design of the ICE fleet was presented in September 2019. The fastest climate protectors in Germany will in future wear a green / red stripe on the two end cars.
